6. Easybib (Free)
Easybib is unrivalled in its simplicity and its ease of use. It allows the researcher to create accurate citations in a variety of styles (MLA, APA, Chicago) simply by scanning a barcode or typing the name of a book or journal. The ability to email the citation to yourself for later storage makes it an essential part of any researchers armoury. It is very powerful when utilised with a reference management software such as Mendeley or Endnote.
7. Wunderlist (Free)
This is a very simple to-do list app. Easy to use and very powerful in its implementation. It is a cloud based tool which allows you to synchronise your to-do lists across multiple devices. Another outstanding feature is the ability to share your lists across projects, ideal for working and collaborating on research projects.
8. iAnnotatePDF (£7.99)
Out of all the recommended apps this is the first one that has a cost associated with it. While £7.99 may seem steep for the humble researcher iAnnotate is essential in reading, marking up and sharing articles via your iPad. It contains a very powerful highlighting and markup too which works of PDF and Doc files. Extremely powerful tool essential in making to most of your research time. Never need to print an article again!
9. GeniusScan (Free)
This app is all about scanning documents quickly think, GeniusScan the creators of the app refer to it as “a scanner in your pocket. Within my research this was a useful tool in scanning articles and book pages. Once scanned these documents can be exported as JPEG or multi-page PDF files. It was useful if I needed to take snippets out of books or diagrams for later use. Works well with evernote.
10. GoogleDrive (Free)
Another cloud based service similar to Dropbox. Works in very much the same allowing you to synchronise your work from your PC and your iPad but the key advantage is the amount of extra space it gives you. Google Drive unlike the 2GB limit of Dropbox gives you a huge 15GB for all your documents and files. Making the USB redundant!
